Some History about Travelin' Talk...

The Travelin' Talk Network was founded by Rick Crowder, who came up with the idea while traveling across Kansas in 1987. Rick, a wheelchair user himself, wondered what he would do if the lift on his van broke. At home he'd know where to get it fixed, but on the road that could be a problem. It occurred to him that there were persons with disabilities that would be willing to help travels with information or advice if they had a problem.

Well he was right! He soon found out that people were not only willing to help in an emergency, but many were happy to share access information and resources. That's how the Travelin' Talk Network was born. It soon grew to over 1,000 members from every state and many countries around the world. Members received a quarterly newsletter to keep them informed of new members and other travel resources Then, in 1993 Travelin' Talk published its first member's directory. Unfortunately, the more the network grew the more difficult it became to keep it updated.

In the early summer of 1999 the solution came by way of Access-Able Travel Source. Since 1995 Access-Able has been providing worldwide access information and resources through databases and information pages on their website. Access-Able has put a secure and password protected directory of members on the Internet as part of their current operation. "It will allow us to keep it current at all times," stated Carol Randall, co-founder of Access-Able. "It will make it easier for members to contact each other. Hopefully this will encourage more contact among members." Travelin' Talk members also receive a monthly email newsletter, which will include member news plus access information and resources.
